What happened to the federal tax credit?
It's gone. The federal 25C credit — up to $2,000 back on heat pumps, $600 on high-efficiency ACs — ended for any system installed after December 31, 2025, eliminated by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. A system installed in 2026 does not qualify, no matter when it was purchased.

What's actually on the table now: utility instant discounts, manufacturer rebate windows, and Texas's $690M HOMES/HEAR programs — funded and surviving, but not open until the state launches them (targeted fall 2026).

The HEAR program will help income-qualified households electrify — heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and the panel/wiring upgrades that support them — once Texas launches it.

When do the Texas HOMES and HEAR rebates start?
Texas is targeting a fall 2026 launch, pending federal approval — the state hired an implementer in spring 2026 but is not accepting applications yet. When live, HOMES will offer up to $8,000 for whole-home efficiency retrofits and HEAR up to $14,000 for income-qualified electrification. The state's own advice: don't sign a contract that depends on these rebates before launch.
Do standby generators qualify for efficiency rebates?
No — generators consume energy rather than save it, so they don't qualify for utility efficiency programs. Generac and Kohler run periodic promotions (extended warranties, seasonal pricing), and we'll tell you honestly what's available. Most real generator savings come from correctly sizing the unit.
How do I know which utility my home is in?
Check the “delivery” or “TDU” line on your electric bill — not your retail provider. In our service area, Galveston, Santa Fe, Webster, and most of the Houston side are CenterPoint Energy, while Texas City, Dickinson, League City, La Marque, and Friendswood are largely Texas-New Mexico Power.
